GP Assistant
FTC- 6 months till March 2025

JOB PURPOSE:

An exciting opportunity has come up for a brand new role within Nexus. We are looking for GP Assistants to provide proactive support to our clinical teams. A GP Assistant will support the GP and wider clinical teams smooth running of clinics by performing administration tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on the patient. This is a role that will develop in its function and we are looking for candidates with excellent administrative skills who are capable of being developed and working collaboratively with our clinicians.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

· Sort all clinical post and prioritise for the GP/clinical team in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.

· Extract all information from clinical letters that needs coding and add to notes according to agreed protocols

· Review laboratory results and action according to agreed protocols

· Arrange appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients

· Proactively contact patients to arrange appointments or follow up

· Complete basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc

· Explain appointment systems such as Long Term Condition clinic to patients to aid appropriate appointment booking and attendance

· Help the GP/clinical team liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s)

Liaison and Meetings

· It will be necessary to attend and contribute to various internal and external meetings as requested. The only reason for not attending will be annual, study or sick leave.

· It is important to ensure good working relationships with all clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure the smooth running of the service, reporting any problems encountered to the relevant person

There is also the need to establish and maintain good liaison with other surgeries and agencies, including secondary care.

The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by Nexus as part of this employment, such training to include:

· Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development.

· Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal

· GP’s and the wider clinical team- Physician’s Associates, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Paramedics, Pharmacist and nursing team.

· DMRT supervisor and Cluster Manager

· Site based non-clinical team including Cluster Administrators, Receptionists and Back Office teams

· Leads and staff within centralised functions (e.g. IT, Data, Telephony, HR, Finance)

External

· NHS England, CCG, NHS provider/partner organisations, GP Federation and other relevant NHS bodies

· CQC, Royal Colleges and other regulatory or professional bodies

· Public Health England and other local Authority bodies or functions.

· Patient Participation Group, third sector agencies and other key interest groups/ stakeholders

· In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately

· In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carer(s), practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.

· Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

· In the course of your employment you will have access to confidential information relating to Nexus Health Group business. You are required to exercise due consideration in the way you use such information and should not act in any way which might be prejudicial to the Nexus Health Group interests.

· Information for extra consideration includes access to the general business of the practice and any information regarding individuals.

· Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers, or the business of Nexus Health Group may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data,

DATA PROTECTION ACT

Employees must be aware of the Data Protection Act (DPA) 1984
You must not at any time use the personal data held by Nexus Health Group for any purpose not described in the registry entry or disclose to a third party
Completing documents relating to cervical smears in line with protocol set out by nurse manager. Coding recall dates on patient notes
Booking telephone calls with nurses if patients need contacting in relation to missed colposcopy appointments if necessary
Completing and coding normal cervical cytology results
GDPR 2018
