GPs who do not wish to participate in the firearms licensing process are still obliged to outline to patients how they can get another doctor to complete the GP section of the form. They should also facilitate access to the patient’s record once the patient has found an appropriate alternative GP.

In December 2023 the Met wrote to GPs asking them to add firearms markers to patient records.
