On 24 October, former Chancellor Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP was appointed Prime Minister. Steve Barclay MP was reappointed Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, with Neil O’Brien MP becoming Minister for Primary Care.
The Prime Minister made his first public visit to Croydon University Hospital, where he stated that “one of the priorities for my Government is going to be tackling the Covid backlogs and supporting the NHS”. It was confirmed that the Prime Minister’s pledge to fine those who miss GP appointments had been dropped, having been made during his previous Conservative leadership campaign.
