Media comment: latest in a long line of hospital IT failings hits GPs and patients

Dr Michelle Drage, our CEO, highlights the wider impact of the pathology result delays caused by the ransomware attack on two London trusts.

On 4 July 2024 news broke that St Guy’s and St Thomas’  and King’s College NHS Foundation Trusts could not connect to Synnovis, their pathology results system, with test results not expected to be accessible for weeks.

“This is the latest in a long line of London hospital trust IT failings that have a significant impact on patients and their GPs, further reducing patients’ access through no fault of their GP practice. Delays to test results are unsafe and leave GPs flying blind while having to manage the justifiable anxieties of thousands of patients. This is in addition to providing care for those currently on long waiting lists and record numbers of routine GP appointments, all with fewer GPs and other staff.”
