Guidance on CCG plans to make GPs ask patients to pay for over the counter treatments
A number of London CCGs are suggesting practices should ask patients to buy their own OTC medicines. We outline the regulatory and contractual issues created by such plans.
This month we ran our Essential Survival Kit event, we’ve picked out some of the more interesting points raised on social media for those who were unable to attend.
Now is the time for practices to start making their preparations, including buying in stock, promoting vaccination and scheduling in inoculation sessions.
At the end of June practices should have received a one-off payment of £250 to compensate them for the administrative burden incurred since April 2016 as a result of problems caused by Primary Care Support England.
On 29 June Londonwide LMCs’ CEO, Dr Michelle Drage was on BBC Radio London’s drivetime show, discussing the pressures on general practice raised at the BMA’s Annual Representative Meeting (ARM). On 16 June Londonwide LMCs’ Medical Director, Dr Jenny Law contributed to a Pulse dilemma piece on how to handle unreasonable behaviour by a partner.
We continue to be very active in promoting the interests of London GPs and practice staff on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. We also support practices that are approached with media requests, you can find details of how to get support here.

Deadline for next month’s submissions is 16 August.
