  • Record number of appointments in general practice belie the need for more GPs [28/11].
  • In response to the publication of the general practice appointment and workforce data, Health Foundation policy fellow Jake Beech said, “Today’s data show the number of appointments in general practice in October hit a record-breaking high of 41.3 million, 3 million more than the previous record in October 2023.  These numbers speak to the huge effort that has gone into meeting the high level of demand for primary care but need to be seen within the context of declining patient satisfaction and high numbers of GPs struggling to manage overwhelming patient demand.”

  • Why do Britons support and oppose assisted dying? [27/11]
  • A YouGov poll has found three quarters (74%) are, in principle, in favour of legalising the practice, with only around one in eight (13%) opposed.
    • For some, the suffering is doubly pointless because of the additional burden it places on the system and the cost of the treatment given.
    • Amongst the 13% of the public who do not support assisted dying there is a concern about exploitation or coercion – that the terminally ill would be persuaded by their loved ones to agree to end their lives, perhaps for financial gain.
