BMA safe working guide and collective action survey

The new guide helps practices push back on unresourced work. GPC England are also surveying practices on collective action being taken.

Launched on 11 September, the BMA described Safe Working in General Practice as: “designed to help GP practices make decisions that will allow them to prioritise their limited capacity to deliver safe, high-quality care. GPC England recommends you can do this by reviewing your currently offered services.  Decisions will need to be individualised to the needs of your patients and practice. This approach recognises practices are operating within limited resources, but also the need to stay within the requirements of the GMS/PMS contract.”

On 16 September, a new survey link for GP partners to report back on what collective action their practice is taking was circulated. We encourage practices taking part in collective action to respond.

The 10 options for practices set out by the BMA can be seen here and guidance on collective action for salaried, locum and registrar GPs is here.
