The Health Secretary has just delivered a statement to Parliament:

• New variant of Covid-19 virus in South East of the UK.
• Doubling time is now 7 days.
• Not known if these are linked.
• Not just in children.
• Over 60s also increasingly affected.
• London and South East, South Essex, and other areas moved to Tier 3.
• It is believed that the current vaccine is highly likely to continue to be effective.
